Royal Ahrend breathes life into Amsterdam ArenA - Ajax stadium seats
Royal Ahrend revitalises the latter part of the over 50.000 replaced stadium seats from the Amsterdam ArenA. These used chairs, with new design, can be ordered from this week via the Ajax-webshop www.ajax.nl or via the Ajax Shop at the Amsterdam ArenA. From every sale, a percentage will be donated to the Ajax foundation, which supports projects for disadvantaged youngsters.
Design and production with a social character
These unique chairs are designed and manufactured by Ahrend’s subsidiary Presikhaaf School Furniture. Presikhaaf employs 230 employees, 190 of which have a disadvantaged position in the labour market . These newly refurbished chairs will use the original seat and backrest of the stadium chairs together with a new base. The reuse of the stadium chairs fits perfectly with Ahrend’s vision of a circular economy where preventing waste of materials and energy is taken into account at every stage – from design and production through to maintenance.
The chairs will be available in three different models: one with a separate seat and backrest which can be assembled by the user; a chair with a steel base and a chair with a wooden frame. The price range of the chairs varies from € 50 to € 65. The chair with a separate seat and backrest will be priced at € 7,75.

Sustainable and societal project

Together with Royal Ahrend, we have come to a great solution, which also enables people with a disadvantage in the labour market to be fully engaged.’
