Sustainability and scarcity of resources are fuelling the need for approaches based on circular economy thinking, such as circular design and pay-per-use of office furniture as opposed to ownership.
Royal Ahrend is a member of the leading circular economy platform (CE100) of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation
As a CE100 member, Royal Ahrend joined global corporate frontrunners, like Nike, H&M, Renault and Google, to collaborate and develop circular economy opportunities. Through the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Royal Ahrend aims to grow its expertise and network, collaborate with other experts, partners and CE100 members to promote the circular economy and unlock business opportunities.
The transition towards a circular economy has evolved from Royal Ahrend’s business operations over the past 25 years. In 1994 the organisation designed the first recyclable task chair, in 2011 it was recognised as the first and only Cradle to Cradle company in the furniture industry and in 2015 Royal Ahrend hired over 180 disabled people to produce school furniture. Therefore is Royal Ahrend, with its knowledge and experience, capable of making a valuable contribution to the CE100 network.
“In bringing together leaders and innovators from around the world, the CE100 network aims to unlock new opportunities for change and growth. We look forward to welcoming Royal Ahrend to the CE100 to share its experiences and to explore opportunities for collaboration amongst a growing network.” Casper Jorna – CE100 Programme Lead

Cradle to Cradle
We are the first and only Cradle to Cradle company in our industry.
We believe sustainability and scarcity of resources are fuelling the requirements for approaches based on circular economy thinking, such as Cradle to Cradle, the ‘REMADE’ and ‘REVIVED’ concepts and operational lease of office furniture. We aspire to create more value together with our customers and assist them in the transition to a more circular economy and company.
